Is Qurbani a FARZ?
Qurbani is mandatory for every Muslim who has reached the age of puberty, and who can afford it. By referring to the correct view of Islam, Qurbani is considerable as a sunnah. Sunnah means that the people who perform Qurbani will be rewarded but it is not a sin on the ones who do not do it. Generally, any person who is able to give Zakat (saheb-e-nisab)it is wajib on them to perform Qurbani. So there are four days of sacrifice: the day of Eid-al-Adha and the three days after it. It is better to hasten to offer the sacrifice after the Eid prayer, as the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did. In order to perform Qurbani, a person must give away three animals. One to themselves, one to their friends, and one to the needy.
How much do I give for Qurbani?
Every eligible Muslim should provide one share of Qurbani, and parents should provide a share in the name of their children. One small animal such as a goat or sheep is equivalent to one Qurbani share, while a larger animal, such as a cow or camel. It is equal to seven shares and can be split, between seven individuals. The word qurban appears thrice in the Quran: once in reference to animal sacrifice and twice referring to sacrifice in the general sense of any act which may bring one closer to God. In contrast, dhabīḥah and refers to normal Islamic slaughter outside the day of udhiyyah.
